Thank you, Lord, for this day. May it be used for your glory!
Good morning everyone and welcome back to another Thursday update!
I can’t believe Christmas is already over. We are about to enter 2022! Like, wow!
I feel so weird about 2021. In one sense, it went by in a flash, in another sense, our 2021 New Year’s trip feels like an eternity ago, and still in another sense it feels like 2021 was just an extension of 2020 and we should be about to enter 2021, not 2022.
It’s just a strange feeling.
Now, before I jump into the quick update, I wanted to apologize. If you noticed, there was no poem yesterday. That was on purpose.
This is still a learning experience for me, and I should have thought ahead more. I told y’all I was taking off Christmas week, but I really should have said I’d take off both last week and this week.
I still wanted to get something out there, though, and so I figured I’d take this opportunity to give an update on our Christmas and share some goals for the Today I Noticed newsletter as we enter 2022.
Our Christmas
I feel like we just got through celebrating 4 different Christmases, haha! It was great, though!
However, it did get off to a rocky start.
It all started with our own family Christmas at home. The Thursday before, Merlin started throwing up everywhere. It was terrible.
See, we have this tradition where we pull our mattress out into the living room for Christmas. This way we can catch Santa, haha!
It’s really so we can sleep with the Christmas tree and a fire in the fireplace. So cozy!
This is also the only time of the year that the dogs get to sleep in bed with us, which they absolutely love!
However, this allowed Merlin to throw up on our bed several times Thursday.
Most other animals get embarrassed when they have to throw up; they run and hide in a corner or start coughing so we can let them out.
Not Merlin.
He loves to pace around and then jump in bed and immediately vomit everywhere.
It was terrible.
Fast forward to Saturday morning and Merlin is still sick. He didn’t eat at all Friday and just moped around. Unless we let him in the backyard where he perked up and ran around like an idiot.
Saturday we were able to get him to eat a little, though! So we figured he was on the mend and we were comfortable leaving for our cooking class.
We learned how to make Bruche De Noel! Which I’ll probably talk more about in a later post.
Entering our home with a fancy cake in hand, we were excited to continue our Christmas festivities, exchange some more gifts, enjoy watching the Grinch by the fire, and snuggling with our doggies…and the cat.
However, Merlin had different plans.
We let him out of his crate and he decided to throw up all his food…again.
It was at this point we decided to bring him to the vet, which took us longer than we figured to find. Most had like a 6-hour wait!
How come so many people were having pet emergencies?
We ended up at an emergency vet clinic that said they only had a 2-hour wait. We loaded our pup in the car, grabbed a blanket, laptop, and were ready to camp out in the car watching the Grinch with our sickly pup.
However, when we arrived, I guess they bumped Merlin up or something and they saw him immediately. Praise God!
Long story short, Merlin ended up needing surgery to remove a mask from his small intestines!
The Lord definitely was in the situation because everything worked out for Merlin. The ultrasound person who was normally on call just so happened to be there already, which meant we could jump straight to ultrasound instead of wasting money on an x-ray first.
When the doctor called to inform us Merlin did in fact need surgery, the surgeon, was also already there and they were able to get him on the operating table instantly!
Praise God, he made it out safe and sound. He was pretty mopy but did pretty well. He only got his cone off once to chew on.
I actually went in later on my DeSo account and pretended like Merlin took it over for a bit to create some NFTs so he could try and pay us back for the surgery, haha! It was a lot of fun and definitely added a little light to a pretty unfortunate situation. You can see Merlin’s post here, haha!

Merlin and Lucy are currently at the border, and it sounds like Merlin is doing alright. He chewed on two cones, so they gave up with that, but it seems like he’s not messing with his incision, so we’re good.
Whoo! Ok, I meant to give a full Christmas update, but maybe that will have to wait for another day!
I told you it felt like we had 4 Christmases, haha! That was just the first weekend before Christmas week. But don’t worry, there is no more drama or medical emergencies.
Before I let y’all go, I will add this one more request, and give y’all a quick reminder on some of the goals for 2022.
As we enter the new year, perhaps this is a great opportunity to share Today I Noticed with friends or family you think would enjoy it!
As a reminder, this is what is included in Today I Noticed:
Wednesdays: a photo by Taylor accompanied by an inspired poem written by me
Thursdays: weekly updates where I like to talk about a hot topic (usually crypto), life updates, or sometimes more philosophical things. Just whatever I want to get off my chest that week.
Fridays: on Fridays, I love to share 4 articles I read that week I thought were inspirational or really cool. This usually includes at least 1 (usually more) crypto-related article too.
NEW in 2022: On Monthly Mondays I will be releasing a new short story. This is part of my overall project called Spatium. This is also only available in the paid version of Today I Noticed. (If you’re family I can get you in for free, though).
Now is a great time to join as I’m about to release the December short story, which is of course, Christmas-themed!
That’s basically it for now! Hope y’all have a great end of 2021 and I’ll talk to y’all in 2022!
