Thank you, Lord, for this day. May it be used for your glory!
Good morning and welcome back to another edition of Friday Inspiration!
This week I have an interesting article for those that are interviewing for a job, 2 NFT articles, and one incredible mind-blowing article. Seriously, don’t miss the last one! Skip to it if you’re in a hurry.
Let’s jump in!
An Amazon applicant who Jeff Bezos hired ‘on the spot’ shares 5 ways to ‘instantly impress’ during the job interview
This article was written by a guy who has interviewed hundreds if not thousands of people over decades of experience. In fact, Jeff Bezos himself hired this guy immediately based on his interviewing skills. I won’t go into all the details, but these are his 5 best tips to stand out in a job interview:
Tell unforgettable stories behind your hobbies and interests
Talk about what you don’t know, but are eager to learn
Use teamwork words like ‘we’ and ‘my team’
Talk about ideas that didn’t work
Go beyond the job description and have a vision of the future
What did I just buy? I tried to use New York’s first NFT vending machine
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/feb/28/nft-vending-machine-new-york-blockchain
It. Has. Happened. Someone or some group in New York has released the very first NFT vending machine.
That’s right, you go up to this thing, swipe a credit card, and get a little box with a QR code inside so you can unlock your NFT. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works, anyways.
Reminds me of a new-age vending machine for buying a pack of baseball cards or Pokemon cards or something.
I don’t know if I’d buy an NFT from this vending machine, but I think it’s a really cool idea, and I just love seeing all the new innovative ideas people come up with for NFTs.
So many people complain about NFTs being scammy or a bubble ready to pop and to be honest, there is probably some truth to that. However, in reality, I think we just don’t fully realize what they will become yet. That’s why we need more and more people innovating and coming up with use cases like NFT vending machines.
I read an article by Tim Denning who quoted this, and I think it really sums my thought up:
“1995: Amazon is just an online shop for books.
2005: Netflix is just a DVD-in — mail service.
2021: NFT is just jpeg you can right click & save.
It’s amazing how many smart people can get the facts very right & yet still comprehend nothing — Tascha Labs”
Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Yuga Labs Acquires CryptoPunks IP From Larva Labs
https://decrypt.co/94898/bored-ape-yacht-club-yuga-labs-cryptopunks-larva-labs
So this article might be a little ridiculous for y’all to follow, but I’m putting it here anyway. In case you care about being in the know on all the big NFT news.
So there are 2 really really big NFT “brands” I guess you could say. One is Bord Ape Yacht Club and the other is CryptoPunks.
Here are some examples of them:
CryptoPunks was one of the first (if not the first) NFT series. These are the ones people have spent a few million on!
Bored Ape Yacht Club came out shortly after and the base price for one of these apes is around $200K or so right now. Essentially, do you want a Lamborghini or a Bored Ape?
Well, the Bord Apes have exploded recently and have become this whole online community. People have sweatshirts, neon signs, hats, all sorts of crazy merchandise, and they support each other like crazy.
I think that’s what people miss is that these NFTs are not just a random picture to make your profile pic on Twitter. It is access to a community of supporters.
Well, the company behind Bored Ape Yacht Club has just announced that they have acquired the IP rights to CryptoPunks! This means they want to start branding CryptoPunks more too. So if you see some teenager with a weird pixelated picture of a human headshot then you can know without a doubt he is a stupidly rich 15-year-old.
Marcel Rémy: The infinite passion of a 99-year-old climber
Ok, last but definitely not least. I loved this article and want to be like this when I’m 99!
Most of us would consider it a privilege just to survive until 99, let alone do it like Marcel Remy. This Swiss man not only made it to 99 but celebrated his 99th birthday by going climbing!
His birthday climb was rated 4c in difficulty, which I think is our equivalent to a 5.7. For reference, the easiest routes are 5.5, then they go up to 5.6, 5.7, 5.8…you get it.
5.7 is definitely not something you start on; it took me a couple of months before I could climb a 5.7 with any real confidence.
But this wasn’t a one-off thing, he apparently also loves to go outdoor rock climbing too!
Just 5 years ago he had planned a big climb like 300 meters on an outdoor wall with his two sons! Worried for his health, when the climb was over, instead of having him hike down, they all just paraglided down.
I mean…if I’m 94 and climbing huge walls and paragliding back down to earth, I will be all sorts of grateful. That’s just insane.
