Thank you, Lord, for this day. May it be used for your glory!
Good morning and welcome back to another edition of Crypto Thursdays!
This week, I wanted to do things slightly differently.
There are 3 main NFT Book platforms out there that I really admire (1 is my own so I’m pretty biased).
They all have some exciting updates, so I just wanted to share those very quickly.
I encourage you, especially if you are a writer, and even more so if you are a reader, to go check them out on your own.
Spatium Stories
Ok, so again, I’m biased because this is my own little side project I’m building. But I am getting very close to releasing the beta version.
You can sign up for the Spatium Stories newsletter if you want quicker updates.
I am doing a short series on “Why We Need NFT Books” in the newsletter and you can read the first one here.
There are 2 things that really excite me for this project though.
1. We offer a unique way to publish books
Most Book NFT platforms have really laid into the rarity feature of NFTs.
Meaning a book might have 10 copies and that’s it. Then the author needs to release more.
That makes it really fun for drops of unique covers and stuff, but I don’t think it makes it a viable long-term digital book store.
That’s why we are offering two formats.
One is RARE, which is exactly what it sounds like. This is where you can drop 10 books with a cool and unique cover or signed edition. Essentially creating a book collectible, which we do believe will be extremely valuable.
The other, though, is MOD or Mint On Demand.
This allows essentially limitless copies of your book to be sold. Whenever someone buys a copy, we mint a brand new book just for them.
2. We’re built on DeSo
And DeSo is having several new updates and features being added very soon!
The most recent one is metamask integration!
Metamask, for those that don’t know, is perhaps the most popular browser-based wallet for Ethereum users.
This means that Ethereum users can now join Spatium Stories without much effort and start buying and reading books!
At least, once we launch :)
Other updates coming soon are vaults for mass data storage, the DeSoDollar stablecoin, and something called MegaSwap.
This could unlock so much potential for people to buy books in any currency they want!
Readl
So Readl already has a few NFT Books on the platform, but they are about to launch a new feature.
They call this one NFT Stories.
I think they delayed the launch slightly, but it should come soon!
The whole premise is to allow authors a cool way to release short fiction content, along with other forms of medium.
I haven’t gotten much detail, but it sounds like they are trying to mix and match video, audio, and text in some unique ways for authors.
It should be pretty fun!
It’s definitely something Spatium Stories would like to do eventually too! It’s actually how we originally started: a short story NFT project.
I told you I was biased towards Spatium Stories.
Book
So the first bit of news with Book is they changed their name from Book Token to just Book.
I will say, of all of them, I think they are doing the best. Their team is well versed in the publishing world and has built a very successful digital book platform in the past.
As such, they are making strides in partnerships and deals to get some big names on the platform.
Word on the street is they have been talking to some of the big 5 publishers (Simon & Schuster, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Hachette Book Group, and Macmillan).
But the other huge news is that NYT best-selling author, Joe Nassise is going to be launching an NFT book copy of his book, Heretic. This is the first in his Templar Chronicles, which currently has 8 books.
I’m assuming if this goes well, it will be safe to say he’ll drop his others on there too!
I for one am definitely going to try and grab one. I think he will be the first NYT best-selling author to publish an NFT Book.
