Yesterday was the day we’ve been waiting for. The day that sparked this whole adventure in the first place. Dudley and Ella’s wedding day.
We woke up early in the morning, even though we planned to sleep in. The time change definitely makes it harder to sleep past 6:30, especially when you’re used to waking up at 5:30 and it still feels like 9:30, haha!
It worked out though because we were able to have a nice relaxing morning. We got some breakfast at the Ultimate bagel (amazing bagels), and then hung out at the park with another friend, Grant, and his new fiance, Catelyn.
Let me just back up and tell you again, we really loved the Ultimate bagel! They had nice thick bagels with a delicious homemade dough, and delicious homemade cream cheese! It was amazing! Tay got a cinnamon toast bagel with this honey almond cream cheese, so good! I got their asiago with lox cream cheese!
Sorry for the tangent, but food is just so good and such a fun part of traveling.
Speaking of food, I forgot we also hit up this little candy shop across the street from the hotel. They have the most delicious, soft, caramels! They are the kind of soft that melts in your mouth like butter! My mouth is watering just thinking about them.
Anyways, so we met up with Grant and Catelyn, rented some scooters and scooted all around the beautiful Spokane river park.
After a few hours of scooting, we walked back to our hotel in the beautiful crisp Spokane air. That heat wave I talked about before is finally gone! What used to be a high of 95 yesterday became a high of 70. So nice!
Though we weren’t prepared for a cold overcast day, so the wedding was a bit chilly, but more on that later.
We prepped for the wedding and set out on the only bit of driving we had for the day. 45 minutes feels like absolutely nothing to us now, haha!
They had their wedding at this beautiful farmland outside of the Coeur d'Alene lake. It was a gorgeous drive and the perfect setting for the couple to get married at.
As Taylor and I sat to witness the union of Dudley and Ella, we were reminded of God’s beautiful words on marriage.
It was such a sweet reminder of what marriage means to God. It was also a great reminder of the vow and covenant we’ve made to each other. I don’t think this is something we will ever be able to hear too many times. Seeing God’s design for marriage as a picture of Christ’s relationship with the church. What a mystery we get to hold on to and strive to live. The greatest example of love is the one I strive to show Taylor each and every day. What an amazing thing we get to be a part of! Praise the Lord!
After the ceremony we had a grand feast of italian food and cake pops!
Recently, Taylor and I have been studying Revelation, and I have a new appreciation of the wedding as a great glimpse and picture of the final marriage between us (the bride) and Christ (our groom) in Heaven. The marriage and feast we put our full hope into.
“Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure”—
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”” (Revelation 19:6-9)
What a glorious time that will be! Dudley and Ella’s feast was pretty good too though, haha. The cake balls they made were amazing!
Taylor and I finally got to dance a little in the corner of the little barn they had their reception in. It was so sweet to dance again; it had been too long.
Eventually, after plenty of time talking and catching up with friends and loved ones, we began making our rounds. We wished Dudley and Ella a safe and happy honeymoon in Alaska and then ventured back to our hotel.
As I said earlier, it was quite cold and the ceremony and dinner was outside in what was supposed to be 90 degree weather. Getting back in the car to throw a sweater on was amazing!
The drive back was longer than we thought, but we made it back at close to 8:30 or 9, which is like midnight our time. So we went to sleep pretty fast, haha!
Thus the destination of our first leg is done, and now begins our return journey home.
