Good morning everyone! Welcome to another Thursday Update. This week I am bringing you an article I actually recently published to Medium. It’s entirely about DESO (or BitClout or also recently called Diamond) and NFTs. Specifically, it’s about how BitClout is becoming an NFT crazed social media machine.
Ok, so this article is probably going to land in a sea of a gazillion articles just like it. I mean NFTs are the hottest topic right now. I’ve written a few articles on NFTs in the past and about how I am using NFTs with my short stories.
But that’s not why we are here.
In fact, I’m not going to talk about OpenSea or any other popular platform like that right now.
I want to talk about another platform that I’ve talked to y’all a lot about before. That is BitClout. Or perhaps you’ve heard it as Diamond app, or maybe even DESO.
If DESO confuses you, let me paint the picture this way. I explained this last week, but in case you missed it, I’ll copy it here again :)
What is DESO?
The epic thing about Bitclout is that it’s a decentralized social media platform built on top of a blockchain called DESO. Following? If not, think of DESO like a foundation.
The decentralized piece means anyone in the world can build an app on top of that foundation and since they all share the same foundation, they all have the same profiles, data, etc. Not even Facebook does that. Your Facebook account can be “tied” to Instagram, but it’s not like your followers carry over. They are separate.
So DESO is the foundation and Bitclout is an app that builds on top of that. A totally different set of developers made a mobile app called Flickapp (the ones with the vaults, remember?) that also builds on top of the DESO foundation. This means it works, runs, and feels like a Bitclout mobile app, but it’s made by a totally different development team. Revolutionary!
Ok, so that’s DESO in a nutshell.
The DESO NFT Problem
Here is the problem at hand. Well, it’s not a problem, but some people are looking negatively towards DESO because of it.
What started as a decentralized version of Twitter where every user is encouraging and helpful, has now turned into a massive NFT machine.
There is a huge emphasis on NFTs right now…I am seeing more and more NFT projects that are just copying what others have had success in. This can be good and works a lot of the time, but it can also oversaturate the platform.
The great news is that I feel like one thing that will counteract this and help new users integrate will be time.
As we see more apps pop up that focus solely on NFTs (NFTz and Polygram are two of them) then perhaps apps like Bitclout/Diamond won’t have to show them.
Or at least not as much. Different apps will be like different social apps we see today (Twitter, Insta, etc) but all running on DESO.
The Good Parts of BitClout NFTs
I say this as perhaps a hypocrite because I’m actually a big believer in NFT’s.
However, I want to see NFT’s used widespread.
So, for example, I am exploring how NFT’s can be used to sell books and perhaps introduce an online used book marketplace. Authors have never been able to collect royalties on used book sales…but with NFT’s it becomes a possibility.
With BitClout, experimenting with creating, buying, and trading NFTs is insanely easy, low cost, and a ton of fun!
Conclusion
What’s the moral of this random rant?
The moral is that DESO/BitClout is an amazing place to jump into NFTs.
It’s an extremely low cost of entry, unlike other platforms that have high gas fees. It’s also inherently like a social media platform so using it is pretty intuitive. If you are interested at all, let me know and I can explain how to sign up and can get you $25 for free to play around with.
Lastly, if the NFT thing scares you and makes you feel like BitClout/Diamond is worthless, then just give it time. I think the saturation of NFTs will go down on the app as other platforms like NFTz and Polygram become more widely used.
This is a really exciting blockchain platform and it’s not going anywhere...I hope, haha!
Hey can you send that link for 25 $ off
