Welcome to the first edition of my Thursday update, encouragement, or blog? I’m not actually sure what this will wind up being, but I didn’t want to wait to start it either.
I believe that our plans will never be perfect because only God’s plans are perfect. I desire to lean into the Lord’s plans and will for our life. However, it’s hard to see what those are sometimes; God doesn’t give us the roadmap to our life.
As much as it would be nice to have a roadmap, the more I think about it, the more I’m thankful God doesn’t do it that way.
There is too much learning that happens during the journey of life. If I knew that I was going to marry the most amazing and beautiful girl after college, I would have packed up and moved to NC instantly. As a result I also would have missed so much growth God had for me in my college years. If I knew I would win the lottery in 5 years, then I wouldn’t want to work very hard right now.
On the flip side, if we knew every bad and horrible thing that would happen in life, we would live in dread of those events. The popular saying is, “ignorance is bliss,” and I think sometimes that’s very true.
However, not knowing the plan doesn’t give us an excuse to sit around and do nothing either. God gives us the command to be Holy, to make disciples, and of course He gives us 10 commandments to follow. If those 10 commandments are too much to remember, Jesus sums it up for us: Love God, Love Others. We are called to act, not just sit and plan. As James would say, we need to have works and faith; faith alone is worthless.
If all that was confusing, I found some quotes to encompass how I feel.
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” – Dale Carnegie
If I ever want to make any kind of impact through writing, then I need to actually get it out there. Sitting at home in fear and trying to make the perfect plan of action isn’t going to get me anywhere. I want to trust God and lean into his will and He will guide where this blog goes and what it’s purpose will be.
“God provides the wind, but man must raise the sails.” – St. Augustine
I really loved this quote too. All the power, skill, and words behind these posts are from God. He provided it all. My job is just to hit send and raise the sails. To commit to God and seek his approval, not others.
The beauty of that last statement is that I know I have God’s approval because of Jesus. No matter what I say or do, that will never change. There is immense peace and freedom in that fact, and that is the hope I hold onto. That is the hope that fuels me.
So, no. I don’t really know what these posts are going to look like week to week. Perhaps one day they will have a consistent format, but for now, I’m not sure. There might be some experiments with different formats, or it might always be “David’s morning thoughts.” I’m not sure.
What I am sure of is that I want this whole thing to honor God and my desire is to always lean on His will and guidance for direction. If I’m doing that, then nothing else really matters.
I was making sure I had not missed any of your postings, when this one popped up for today! What wonderfully inspiring thoughts!
I have been moved by your “blog”to read the Bible in the mornings! Love your thoughts and inspirations!
