Welcome to another Thursday update! I really didn’t know what to write about this week, as you will soon find out, haha. Hopefully, it is still enjoyable, insightful, or gives you an update of what we’re up to.
Sometimes it’s a lot easier to just start writing and allow my inner self to come out on the page. It’s almost like I have to stop thinking in order to write my actual thoughts.
This week is a shorter week since we had July 5th off! Woohoo! The joys of a short week are tremendous, but it definitely throws your schedule out of whack.
Monday was a great day of rest, but it definitely left us confused. We went back and forth between thinking it was a Sunday and oddly enough Tuesday. I’m still not sure why.
Either way, the week goes on as we try to get our routines back. Lately, we’ve been trying really hard to stick to a healthy eating schedule and consistent workout routine. We do well for a week or 2 and then something hits us and we crave that cookie or we get sick, or we’re out of town, and we fall out of the routine.
It’s funny how much easier it is to continue spiraling downwards once you fail once. It’s like, “well, I had a cookie yesterday, so I might as well have one today too.” One accidental cheat meal turns into a cheat week and then before you know it you are back to square 1. So aggravating.
It really just shows how hard it can be to stay consistent in a world that keeps changing. Perhaps that’s the key we’re missing; change is ok, inescapable, and necessary to reach our goals.
When we try to maintain a workout plan, we need to keep a smaller mindset with a broader goal. Our goal is to live a healthy life for the glory of God. However, to achieve that, we need a short term mindset to stick to a 6 week program. Then we can more easily take each week at a time.
A healthy life is only one thing we’re working on right now.
We are also working on other side projects/dreams. We both love working with our hands and love to create/restore pieces of furniture.
Take what you see and make it better. There is a simple joy in that mantra.
We’re trying to create a side gig around furniture flipping, and that’s been a lot of fun to plan and figure out. We have already refinished a bed frame (which we are keeping) and had a ton of fun with it! We’re going to try and clear out some space in the garage to get a good workspace so we can start building and refinishing things. It will be a lot more fun and fulfilling than sitting on the couch watching TV.
Another passion of ours is in the foster care and adoption realm. We are praying and hoping to adopt one day, but until that point we want to help support that cause in any way we can. Our current solution is to include our furniture flipping business. For every sale we make we’re planning to donate a percentage to a non-profit that focuses on foster care or adoption.
We haven’t picked which one yet, but we found one we really liked that helps newly aged out foster children by supplying furniture for their apartment. It is called A Sense of Home.
Statistically, they say 50% of the homeless population spent some amount of time in foster care. This non-profit helps to aid them as they start their life with no financial support from a family.
There we go. That’s mainly what Tay and I have going on this week.
Again, one side goal I have with these posts is to help improve my writing. It gives me a deadline I have to stick to. That was the beauty of school was deadlines that had a consequence. I can set a deadline for myself, but if there’s no consequence, then it doesn’t matter. However, if I set a deadline and promise subscribers I will follow through? Well now I have sufficient pressure to get it done.
This week’s post is a little all over the place, and to be honest, I think that’s just how I feel this week. Trying to get our schedule in place again makes it feel like we’re all over the place too. Soon, we will be back to the normal grind, and these writings will take a more sensible form. Until then, welcome to our world, haha!
